The Old Spot ( Dining / Other ). Located at 12 Sadler Street, Wells, 2 miles from the center of Wookey Hole. My wife Clare and I opened the Old Spot Restaurant in 2006 after having found what we knew was a great position in Wells, a historic cathedral city with a thriving market on the edge of the Mendip Hills, a very beautiful part of the world. We wanted to open a restaurant that reflected our own philosophy of serving good, simple seasonal food that was accessible to everybody, with a wine list and service to match.

The Quarter Jack ( Dining / Pubs / Bars ). Located at 18 Priory Road, Wells, 2 miles from the center of Wookey Hole. Wells is the ‘City of Bells’. The bells from St Thomas, St Cuthbert and the cathedral all ring on the hour. Wells Cathedral has the world’s heaviest ring of 10 bells. The famous astronomical clock in the north transept of the cathedral is considered to be the second-oldest clock in the British Isles. When it strikes every 15 minutes, jousting knights rush around the clock, while the ‘quarter Jack’ bangs the quarter hours with his heels.
