Whitby is a town in the Scarborough borough of North Yorkshire. It is situated 47 miles from York, at the mouth of the River Esk and spreads up the steep sides of the narrow valley carved out by the river's course. At this point the coast curves round, so the town faces more north than east. Local dining options include The Brompton Forge, Walkers Fish Restaurant, The Copper Horse Restaurant, and The Derwent Restaurant Hackness Grange.

Whitby's skyline is dominated by the ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey, high on Whitby's East Cliff. Spreading below Whitby, a maze of alleyways and narrow streets run down to the busy quayside. From the old town of Whitby, 199 steps lead up to the parish church of St. Mary, whose churchyard on Whitby's East Cliff gave Bram Stoker the inspiration to write his world famous book, Dracula. Whitby is situated on the Yorkshire Coast. To the south lies the coastal villages and resorts of Ravenscar, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. All these are well within a short drive from Whitby.

The center of Whitby ( which is at is longitude -0°31'37.471 and latitude 54°14'30.424 ) is located 2 miles away from Sawdon, 3 miles away from East Ayton, 5 miles away from Willerby and 6 miles away from East Heslerton.
