Skipton Castle dates back some 900 years and is one of the most complete and well preserved castles in England. The nearby Bolton Abbey estate, owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire with its riverside walks and 12th century priory, is well worth a visit as is the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway which starts just outside the town.
