Places to stay in Billinghay, Lincolnshire
Billinghay is a village in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire about ten miles north-east of Sleaford. The village lies along the B1189 road near the junction with the A153. Just south of the village towards Sleaford is North Kyme. The settlement is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The name originates from the Saxon name for a fishery. The topography in ancient times would have seen a small settlement on a gravel mound surrounded by marsh which was flooded in winter. After the draining of the fens in the late 18th century the area became rich agricultural land as it is today. The parish church is of historic interest. It dates from the 13th century. The village contains two schools, The Lafford High School, and Billinghay Primary School. Lafford High is due to go though a phased closure, due to falling pupil numbers. Places to eat in the region include The Penny Farthing Inn, Packet Inn, Millenium Dragon, and Chipmunks.
