Places to stay in Hatfield, Hertfordshire
Hatfield is a town in Hertfordshire in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield. It has Saxon origins. Hatfield House, the home of the Marquess of Salisbury, is the nucleus of the old town. From the 1930s when de Havilland opened a factory until the 1990s when British Aerospace closed, Hatfield was associated with aircraft design and manufacture, which employed more people than any other industry. Hatfield was one of the post-war New Towns built around London and has much modernist architecture from the period. The University of Hertfordshire is based there. In 2000 there was a fatal rail crash on the railway line that runs through the town from London to York. Local restaurants include Here Japan, Rice Time, China Sky, and Khyber Balti House.

Red Lion ( Dining / Pubs / Bars ). Located at 88 Great North Road. Located a short stroll from the grounds of Hatfield House where history states that news of Queen Mary's death on 17th of November 1558 reached Elizabeth, where she was said to be out in the park, sitting under an oak tree. Upon hearing that she was Queen, legend has it that Elizabeth quoted the 118th Psalm's twenty-third line, in Latin: "A Dominum factum est illud, et est mirabile in oculis notris" ("It is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes.")
