It is situated approximately 6 miles (10 km) north-west of the market town of Pocklington and about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the village of Stamford Bridge. The village of Low Catton and the River Derwent are 1 mile to the west. In 1931 the parish had a population of 174. From 1866 High Catton was a civil parish in its own right, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Low Catton to form "Catton".
